The Master’s Degree in Architecture has the object of Naviglio Grande and the Navigli System to which it belongs.
The study of the multifunctional nature of the Naviglio waters is the premise for the developed work. Irrigation, navigation, energy production and cultural and recreational sports activities have been fundamental to Lombard history and continue to be present, capable of responding to the demands of contemporary society.
The method of investigation, analytical and design was multiscalar and transdisciplinary, believing the importance of the value of various disciplines to intervene in a complex system.
As in a descent journey that starts from the Bacino del Panperduto (the hydraulic work deriving from the Ticino) and arrives at the port of the Darsena of Milan (from which starts off the current), we analyzed the landscape crossed by Naviglio. The heterogeneity of the territory, its orography (from the wooded areas to the urban fabric of Milan) and the richness of architectural artifacts are described as frames, with a sequence of sections and planimetric frameworks.
Landscape frame analysis
It was then re-proposed, with scales of scale 1: 50,000, the multifuncionality of the Naviglio of tomorrow and therefore, with the reopening of the circle and of the milestone of Martesana, of the Navigli System in which it is understood. The agricultural, irrigation, energy and intermodality frameworks have been outlined in light of the current problems of water scarcity in the rural fabric of the South Park, the underdevelopment of the groundwater in the urban area, the renewal of energy through groundwater pumps, mobility Slow tourist, hiking and commuting.
Multifuncionality of water#1 – Irrigation
Multifuncionality of water#2 – Energy
Multifuncionality of water#3 – Intermodality&mobility
Masterplan, at the same scale as multi-functional frameworks, synthesizes these large-scale interventions and reinforces the intention to reactivate the system, seeing in the inner inner circle the missing ring to complete the overall design. The metaphrowth phase is a first level of deepening with the purpose of fixing the intervention guidelines through an “abacus of 20 metaprojects”.

Metaprojects
Five multifunctional projects were developed along the Industrial Channel and Naviglio Grande:
– The “Energy Park” of Vizzola Ticino (Varese), with the restoration of the sailing boats; – “Istmo sul Naviglio” in Cassinetta di Lugagnano with the maintenance and urban furniture; – “Stops On the water”of iron, bicycle and boat in Albairate-Vermezzo; -“La Guardia di Sotto Agrihub”in Corsico, with the recovery of the degraded rural complex; -The “Scalo San Cristoforo Park”in Milan, with the Redevelopment of the dislocated railway line as an opportunity to reclaim the Lorenteggio and Barona districts.

Project#2 L’Istmo sul Naviglio Cassinetta di Lugagnano
Project#3 Station on water Albairate
Project#4 La Guardia di Sotto AgriHub Corsico
Project#5 Park Scalo S.Cristoforo Milano
This is based on the design of blue, green, proximity and mobility infrastructures, considering intermodal connections with overpasses such as the Milan Locarno Venice and VenTo, the driving force behind the mobility system. Changes have been planned, qualifying and equipping public space, in order to make visible the historical, productive, environmental (material and immaterial) heritage of marginalized territories despite the fact that they can be a cultural and economic flyer.
